I know, I know, it is a new year and everyone is making resolutions, many to lose weight. Well, my resolution started a few weeks ago when I celebrated my 49th birthday and decided enough is enough.
I have been struggling with weight for years and while I am not obese….hold on, technically I am. According to the National Hearth Lung and Blood Institute a body mass index (BMI) over 30 is considered obese. My number as of today is 34.4!!! That is based on my weight of 240 lbs. at a height of 5 feet 10 inches. Click that link to calculate your own…if you dare.
Those of you that know me might be thinking “he doesn’t look heavy” or “he carries it well” or even “wow, he must be big boned!”. I am indeed stocky and a lot of it is muscle but that is no excuse. The numbers, and the fit of my clothes, don’t lie.
I also have two risk factors that combined with a high BMI put me at a greater risk for future heart conditions – high LDL cholesterol and high triglycerides. So, the writing is on the wall and it is time for a change. My goal is to be 200 lbs or lighter by December 17, 2017.
As I mentioned on my homepage, I am using this site to track my progress publicly because guilt is a huge motivator for me. I’ll post my actual weight and body fat numbers tomorrow (1/2/17) as I am having my fitness assessment at Equinox.
So join me on this crazy journey. I am going to attack it like my spirit animal, the Honey Badger, would. Head on.
Thanks in advance for your guilt…I mean support.
PS: The site is a work in progress. I am working on getting comments working properly, social sharing etc.
Way to go Joe! You can do it!
Thanks Tracey!
I look forward to following your journey to fitness. Good luck.
Thanks Bob! It is long overdue.
I love this and applaud your willingness to share. We all need to tap into what motivates us individually. I will be watching as I am on a similar journey. My 50 is July 23 so I have less time. You got this! ?
Thanks Christine! There is power in numbers… let’s make 50 the new 25!
Congrats my friend. I’m struggling with my weight as well. You are my inspiration. Lucy Portilla
